Our Story
Founded by Elder Charles R. Lovings, Sr., on July 13, 2008, The House of Refuge Church of God in Christ has served as a beacon of faith in our community for over a decade.
Pastor Lovings answered God’s call to create a church that would provide not only spiritual guidance but also practical support for those in need. From humble beginnings, The House of Refuge has grown into a vibrant community of believers who support and uplift one another. Our journey has not been without challenges, but with faith and determination, we have continually overcome obstacles to serve our congregation and community.
Our vision is to remain a refuge for the hurting, a guide for the lost, and a family for all who seek solace. We envision a world transformed by God’s love, where everyone is valued and has the opportunity to grow in their faith and purpose.

At The House of Refuge Church of God in Christ, our mission is to be a haven of hope, healing, and spiritual growth for all who seek the presence of God. We are a community committed to evangelizing the lost, educating believers, and cultivating a space where faith can flourish. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the banner of holiness, we aim to equip and empower individuals with God’s Word, preparing them to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.

Values
- 2008 - The church was established with the mission to evangelize, educate, and uplift through God’s Word.
- 2012 - God blessed us with a new location at 8912 Homestead Road, Houston, Texas, a place that has become our spiritual home and the center of our community outreach efforts.
- 2017 - Hurricane Harvey severely impacted our community, but thanks to God’s provision and a generous $150,000 grant from the Samaritan’s Purse Foundation, we were able to rebuild and continue our mission.

Elder Charles R. Lovings, Sr.
Under the inspired leadership of Pastor Charles R. Lovings, Sr., The House of Refuge Church of God in Christ has grown into a spiritual sanctuary for many. Pastor Lovings is known for his dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to spreading God’s Word. Through his vision and faith, he has guided our church to become the refuge and community it is today.
Pastor Lovings’ message to the congregation: “The House of Refuge is more than a church; it’s a family, a safe haven, and a place where people can find God’s love. We are blessed to serve our community and look forward to many more years of growth and faith together.”
Anniversary and Milestones
Foundation (2008)
On July 13, 2008, The House of Refuge was founded with a mission to evangelize, educate, and provide refuge for those seeking spiritual solace.
A New Home (2012)
In 2012, we were blessed with our current location at 8912 Homestead Road, Houston, Texas, which has become a place of spiritual growth and community for our congregation.
Rebuilding After Hurricane Harvey (2017)
The impact of Hurricane Harvey was deeply felt by our church, but God provided through the generosity of the Samaritan’s Purse Foundation, which granted us $150,000 for rebuilding efforts. We emerged stronger, reaffirmed in our mission, and ready to serve our community with renewed faith.
